Another parent told me about this and it is amazing. I am terrified to give my toddlers hot dogs due to the choking hazards. This helps put me at ease! Plus the design is cute.Although it's a great idea it doesn't cut the hot dogs through nor does it fit a regular size hot dog minute you have to cut itMy grandchildren absolutely love this! No fear of them getting injured usu g it themselves and they are 5 and 3.We purchased this for my four-year-old son who just started taking an interest in hotdogs. So far, it has had a hard time cutting through the two brands of hotdogs that we’ve tried and a softer breakfast sausage. The bowl slides off of it a lot, as it’s just a little cushion part. Overall and made him happy so I’m happy with it but the price seems like a lot for having to dig the ground up hot dog that you can’t get out of the bottom. It hasn’t cut all the way through yet so you’re not able to just grab the pieces out after their cut. You have to scrape them out.Bought this for the grandkids. Figured it'd be fun for them. They like using it and now don't want hot dogs without it. It does cut the dog into small enough pieces you don't have to worry about a toddler choking on it.The actual cutter works somewhat OK. I have found that the cheaper basic hot dogs work better than the premium brands. If the hot dog is hot when put in and you use a little bit of oomph and quickness when slicing seems to work best. Also the dogs I've found to be best, surprisingly have the same first and last name as my bologna did when I was growing up.I bought one of these a few years ago to make dinner more fun for my eldest daughter. What a mistake. She loves her "hot dog dog" and demands it every time she has a hot dog, which is...more than once a week. I know, I know, but you try dealing with a picky eater. It's super easy -- after nuking a hot dog, I let it cool for a minute or two (to avoid exploding hot juices), then pop it onto the base and press the top down. Hot dog is perfectly cut into small pieces that she won't choke on, and its entertaining for her at the same time. My husband hates cleaning it (dishes are his job!) but its easy enough (use a toothpick if hotdog casing is getting stuck in any grooves, comes right out) and we throw it in the dishwasher most nights and it has held up super well. Anyway, along came kiddo #2, NOT a picky eater, but a very jealous one, and so we recently had to buy a 2nd one so that they could both have them at dinner together. Assorted colors I believe so while our first was blue, the second is green. luckily kiddo #2 likes green. so now they both demand "hot dog dogs!" for dinner (aka, hot dogs in these dog dishes) and my husband and I roll our eyes...and then do their bidding. I mean, if it gets them to eat...May 27, 2021: My son loved this as a birthday gift from his younger brother! They eat hotdogs together. Younger brother doesn’t use ketchup; older brother does, so the ketchup receptacle is great. It’s poorly located under the dog’s chin, but 6 year old doesn’t seem to mind. This is a bit gimmicky, but it’s a great idea. We buy the Kirkland brand hot dogs from Costco (not the big ones, just the standard size), and they are too long for this. I have to cut about half an inch off the length in order to have the hot dog fit in this to be cut. I tried a bratwurst to see if it worked with the shorter length, but that was disastrous. The bratwurst was too wide (worse issue than too long), and it was far too juicy. It made a huge, slippery, greasy mess. Maybe this would work better with smaller sizes hot dogs, but I can’t speak to that. From why I’ve tried, it takes a fair bit of force for a full-sizes adult to slice through a hot dog. Was hoping my kiddo could do this independently, but no such luck. The hot dog comes out a bit mangled. ??I read reviews and for the price I decided to try it out. Some of the bad reviews said the hot dog got destroyed/did not cut right. I can see how that would happen especially if it’s grilled and develops that crunchy skin. Or if the water squirting if you boil it. I microwaved ours for 15 seconds and it was perfect temp. Warm but ok to eat right away. I used the cheese dogs so I did notice with the cheese the pieces stuck together but that’s ok. You do have to line up the two pieces just right to get a good cut but it’s not the end of the world if you go a little crooked just move it over. Who cares if the pieces are not cut evenly perfect. The other main bad reviews I saw mentioned the dog’s head being right above the dip cup but you can just turn him around so the kid still has the cute dog but can also easily dip.Overall it’s cute and easy to use and I would recommend for kids that love hot dogs. Just microwave them 15 seconds. Faster than grilling or boiling them.Edit: I tried a “regular” hot dog and it did what people are complaining about. It was hard to cut and the skin was tougher so that it sprayed juice and was just scrambled. I removed a star for that. So it just depends on the hot dog used. Now I know next time I will just use the cheese dogs because the cut nicely. The concept is brilliant - I bought it as I cut hot dogs into small pieces for training with my dogs and this seemed like a great way to cut down on the time taken. Unfortunately the length given is overall and it will only take the smallest of hotdogs - I'd say the tinned ones as even the small ones from the jar are too long unless you cut first. Although made from plastic it cut the hotdogs cleanly into bite sized pieces. I'm sure kids would love this and having the added 'bowl' for sauce is great fun as well as functional. It doesn't cut the sausage up unless you really push down, however I wouldn't want blades on something Id leave with my toddler so that's fair enough! And my toddler loves eating from it especially the ketchup bowl!!Great fun for all the family or if you just like kitch retro looking kitchen items.Arrived in time and was exactly what I wantedKids love it. It's a bit flexible (only strong enough for frankfurters) and it's slightly awkward to clean but it's a fun addition to dinner time. Recommended!
